I got nicked once for surging when we scored against Port Vale and as I was being marched off in front of the South Bank, we scored again and I just missed out on being on the video!!

Was processed and then me and every other cunt getting done all walked back round to the South Bank and went back in, as the gates were open by then.

2-2 I think and maybe Robbie Earle scored for them.

The atmosphere was immense even in league games , at the back of the North / South Bank

One thing I loved back then early mid 90's , go a goal down , few moans and groans , then the roar
of full support backing your team to get back in the game "billy bonds claret n' blue army" sends shivers down my spine that type of spirit . .

Not sensed that fan unity , passion for years !

Can't wait for the Ryder Cup today, as even though the players are all minted, I still feel that I can relate to them more than the modern footballer, who with the odd exception are just a set of prima donas.

Then you go back to the golden era of football with the likes of Morley and Bishop and you can imagine yourself having a right good beer and a laugh with all of them and I literally couldn't wait to see them every week and even missed 2 family funerals as they were on away games. Sorry Unc's, sorry cous, you knew the score.

Morley is number 3 on my all time favourite hammers list and the team he played in may not have been the best, but fuck me they gave me the best times of my life supporting the club.

90s for me. Was only a kid obviously but swear I remember more from matches back then than anything that happens now. Everyone took the piss out of West Ham for being shit (and tbf we had some absolute shockers) but everyone agreed that our games were generally always exciting and every player we had though we loved (with a few exceptions). Football just seemed better then.

Yup 84-94 was my fav time... massive up's and downs and some right old shit sometimes but it was all a part of the journey.... virtually every player we had you could identify with... can hardly say that nowadays...

Late 80's early 90's was a great time to be watching West Ham, had so many good days/nights out, with players like Bishop and Slater etc. from the terraces to the Raves. Won't be beaten for me, guess due to my age it was a time before kids and mortgages. But still stand by the fact that was the best time

Good thread this.

Maybe its a generational thing but this era of West Ham produced so many icons for me.

It's not quite buying Alan Devonshire for £5,000 but spending £250,000 on Mark Ward and then trading him in for Bishop & Morley was some good dealing.
5 years of Ward & a decade of the other two for what we pay Andy Carroll in 2 1/2 weeks.

A close friend was plucked out of the Spurs end at UP whilst singing Morley takes it up the arse and subsequently arrested and charged. And we won that day. Great stuff.

Re: Morley & Bishop Relive Stabgate
We've always had good creators going back to Johnny Byrne, then we've had Dev, Brooking, Bishop (who I don't know a lot about), PDC and now Payet and Lanzini, where we have come up short over the years is not having too many midfield tigers, where were all the Kantes and Makeleles, only Billy Bonds really filled that role well and that's probably why we have a relatively small trophy cabinet

In my view

Both Bishop and Morley got a bit of stick off our fans at various times.

madeasy.... Alvin talks about the bravest player he ever played with at WHU.... he said the Bish... he said yes anyone could put their body on the line but no matter what type of form Bish was ever in he never went missing... always wanted the ball.... always been one of me fav players

Sold, that's the version I was told by the bloke who was Harry the Hornet at Watford. No wonder Morley's missus went spare.

nice interview with him.

talks about how he always wanted the ball and if he passed it then he only lent it to someone.

talks with an immense passion about the game, some pros nowadays could learn something by watching this.

in my top 3 players ever at West Ham

Re: Morley & Bishop Relive Stabgate
There's a good podcast on Kumb with Bishop where he talks about this. There was nothing in the rumours at all. Morley definitely struggled in the eighteen months after it happened but eventually came back from it and was a decent player for us.

With the greatest of respect Football fans and the Tabloid media go together like Fish and Chips.

The man get's stabbed by his wife and is being accused of being Gay too , which today is nothing much but back then was still a difficult ordeal.
Good to see them well and contented.
